Students & the Tang

Skidmore students are a vital part of the Tang, whether working behind the scenes with Tang staff, creating programs for Thursday nights or attending events and lectures. Explore this section to find out more about how students contribute to the life of the museum.

Melinda Kiefer, '11, got involved with the Tang her freshman year at Skidmore. In this video, the studio art major talks about her many jobs and the fundamental role the Tang played in her college experience.

Work Opportunities
Internship and Workstudy experiences offer students opportunities to explore possible career options in museums. Although students are assigned to a specific department within the museum, the small size of the Tang staff allows for interaction and observation between students and all of the areas of the museum.

Internships
Each semester a number of college students from various disciplines work with museum staff at the Tang. Past internship projects have focused on creating lessons for our outreach program for schools and libraries, writing for the curatorial department, conducting research for collections, creating small exhibitions from collections, and assisting with museum conferences.

Workstudy
The Tang Museum employs Skidmore College students in various part-time positions including gallery monitors, curatorial aides, collections assistants, and museum store assistants. Skidmore students are encouraged to check the Student Employment section of the college's website for openings.
