Dream Paper

Shana Lutker’s Dream Paper records a year of the artist’s dreams, presented in the form of a newspaper. Employing the typographic and page-layout conventions of the daily press, Lutker reports as many dreams as she can recall each morning. Cloaked in the visual rhetoric of “the news,” her meandering dream narratives function oddly within the newspaper format’s aura of journalistic objectivity. The mismatch between content and form emphasizes both the peculiar logic of dreams and the role that visual conventions play in structuring the reception of written information as either fact or fiction. The table, lamp, and benches, also part of the installation, provide a simple, uninflected backdrop to the artist’s newspaper of dreams.
