Elizabeth Karp

The Senior Museum Registrar is responsible for the development of policies and procedures pertaining to the Tang Museum, its collection, and artworks being loaned from the Tang Collection to other venues. The Senior Museum Registrar works with curators, preparators, and artists to care for and oversee the installation of artworks, as well as manage the Tang’s touring exhibitions. The Senior Museum Registrar also works with student assistants and hosts visits to the collection.

Elizabeth Karp joined the Tang Museum in 2002 as Museum Registrar and Collections Manager, and currently holds the position of Senior Museum Registrar. After graduating from New York University, Elizabeth began her professional career as an artist assistant. While working as a studio assistant for several artists in New York City, her knowledge of materials, techniques, and studio practices evolved and she learned about the relationships between artists, their galleries, and museums. Elizabeth has also worked as an art handler on installation crews and on various art storage projects. Elizabeth experienced four years working for an art storage facility and transportation company furthering her knowledge of collections care, archival materials, packing and crating methodologies, and the hidden world of fine art transportation and its idiosyncrasies.

Elizabeth is a musician, artist, and curator.
