Sunny Ra joined the Tang in 2018 as the Museum Educator for K-12 and Community Programs. Prior to the joining the Tang, Ra lived in Louisville, Kentucky, as an artist, educator, and administrator. For many years, Ra was an educator for both the Academy and several Community Arts programs at Louisville Visual Art. She was also the Painting and Drawing instructor for the Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts, a competitive art intensive for high school students from all over the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In addition to teaching, Ra worked as the Coordinator for the Arts in Healing program at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, which partners local artists with community organizations to provide creative arts programming for patients healing from substance abuse, the wounds of war, children recovering from physical and mental abuse and abandonment, seniors embracing the end of life, and for families and caregivers of those in need.
Ra earned her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Hunter College, CUNY, her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Painting Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. As an artist, Ra has exhibited her work in many cities, including New York City, Philadelphia, and Louisville.
