About the Artist

Jennifer Levonian, born 1977, is an artist who creates cut-paper animations that explore the ambivalence of everyday life. With hand-painted pieces of paper, she constructs narratives that seem familiar yet surreal, commonplace yet bizarre, examining the moments and emotions that often go unnoticed amongst daily routines. Levonian brings humor, heartbreak, beauty, and discomfort to her audience as stories unfold within her watercolor world. Her animations, watercolors, quilts, and cutouts have been shown and exhibited across the United States, including at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Wexner Center for the Arts (Columbus, OH), Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibits, and more. She received her BA from The College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, VA) and her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, RI). She was awarded the Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2009.
