Join us Saturday, August 3, at 2 pm, for Family Saturday: Whale Fossils! After visiting and discussing the found objects that comprise Mark Dion’s installation Trichechus manatus latirostris, which is part of Mark Dion and Alexis Rockman: Journey to Nature’s Underworld! , participants will create their own whale fossils using air-dry clay and uncooked beans.

Family Saturday programs foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity. Programs run from 2-3:30 pm and include a tour of selected works. All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children age 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The background pattern is composed from the Tang dingbat, an abstracted diagram of the building. The four steps of the dingbat, like the four letters of Tang, symbolize thought, learning, and aspiration.
