Family Saturday: Painting People

A painting of a light-skinned girl with brown hair and green eyes wearing a red and black striped shirt while holding a small guinea pig.
Chantal Joffe, Esme with a Guinea Pig, 2012, oil on board, 15 7/8 x 11 ¾ inches, Tang Museum collection, gift of Adam Sheffer in honor of Jane Greenberg ‘81, 2016.6.2

Join us on Saturday, March 1, at 2 pm, for an art-making project based on Chantal Joffe’s painting of her daughter, Esme with a Guinea Pig. Like Joffe, participants will create their own portraits of a loved one using acrylic paint and canvas! Tang educators will guide participants through the basics of portrait painting and color mixing in a fun and explorative way!

“Looking is an obsession…It’s a brilliant human experience. So for me painting is always a part of that looking…it’s also about sensing how people are.” —Chantal Joffe

Painting People is designed by education intern Mia Etkin ’26.
