Family Saturday: Funny Face

An abstraction of distorted faces
Takashi Murakami, Chaos, 1998, acrylic on linen, mounted on board, 16 x 16 inches, Ann and Mel Schaffer Collection

Join us Saturday, September 27, at 2 pm, for Family Saturday: Funny Face. After viewing Chaos by Takashi Murakami, above, in the exhibition See in Now: Contemporary Art from the Ann and Mel Schaffer Collection, participants are invited to create their own funny face paintings using acrylic paint and googly eyes.

Family Saturday programs foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity. Programs run from 2-3:30 pm and include a tour of selected works. All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children age 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The background pattern is composed from the Tang dingbat, an abstracted diagram of the building. The four steps of the dingbat, like the four letters of Tang, symbolize thought, learning, and aspiration.
