Family Saturday: Woven Wonders

A tall basket made of willow and waxed string
John McQueen, Happenstance, 2011, willow, waxed string

Join us Saturday, November 8, at 2 pm, for Family Saturday: Woven Wonders! After viewing Happenstance and It Is As If What There Is Is, two baskets by John McQueen on view in the artist’s memorial exhibition, participants are invited to create their own woven sculptures using chenille straws, beads, and thread.

Family Saturday programs foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity. Programs run from 2-3:30 pm and include a tour of selected works. All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children age 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The background pattern is composed from the Tang dingbat, an abstracted diagram of the building. The four steps of the dingbat, like the four letters of Tang, symbolize thought, learning, and aspiration.
