"Dear America: History Meets Hip-Hop at the Tang"

Brian Dewan, Synclaire Rowen, and Clifford Oliver will be among the performers in Dear America, photo by Sarah Pezdek

ArtsFestFridays presents "Dear America: History Meets Hip-Hop at the Tang Museum," an evening of eclectic historic- and election-themed entertainment including vintage campaign songs from musician/artist Brian Dewan, hip-hop poets and performers from Saratoga Springs High School, and historic reenactors from across the Capital Region.

This free, family-friendly event takes place within the exhibition A More Perfect Union.

Featured performers include:

  • Brian Dewan, an artist and musician based in Catskill who creates music, performances, filmstrips, and musical instruments, and has worked with everyone from rock band They Might Be Giants to performance artists Blue Man Group to Sesame Street

  • Saratoga Springs High School students Synclaire Rowen, Nick Lahut, and Daniel Irizarry—known respectively by stage names Scrambled, Niko and Cryptic—will convey their thoughts about America

  • Historic reenactors, portraying a wide array of figures including Solomon Northup, Mark Twain, Booker T. Washington, Susan B. Anthony and many more, will be mingling with the crowds

ArtsFestFridays are a series of multi-genre, multi-generational events that have different themes, producers and locations each time out. Dear America is produced by: Skidmore College Dean of Special Programs Paul Calhoun; Albany-based artist Samson Contompasis; Tang Museum Educator for College and Public Programs Megan Hyde; Yaddo Communications and Events Manager Tristan Kirvin; and Skidmore College Professor Adam Tinkle.
