Elaine Mayes on Asking Questions Through Photography

On March 9, 2016, Skidmore students Isabel Goldstein ’17 and Bailey Threatt ’16 interviewed photographer Elaine Mayes about her work from the Tang collection in the exhibition Borrowed Light: Selections from the Jack Shear Collection.

The conversation was part of a series of interviews with artists in Borrowed Light: Selections from the Jack Shear Collection, conducted by Skidmore students in the Art History course “The Artist Interview,” led by Dayton Director Ian Berry. The series was supported by The Alfred Z. Solomon Residency Fund.

About Elaine Mayes

Elaine Mayes is a photographer whose work bridges the documentary and artistic. Her photographs have been exhibited extensively internationally and are collected by major institutions across the country. She has received numerous awards, including three grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship.
