David Miller:
A Retrospective

David Miller communicates complex narratives with his Abstract Expressionist-influenced paintings, creating a tension between the conscious and the subconscious, reality and unreality. David Miller: A Retrospective featured a selection of paintings from the artist’s entire career. His focus on contour and line, his celebrated, exuberant use of color, and his imaginative, often playful images illuminate Miller’s artistic uniqueness. His paintings’ attention to detail and deliberate avoidance of strong focal points suggest that nothing is truly what it seems; everything floats in a constant state of change.

This exhibition marked the Tang’s first celebration of a Skidmore faculty member’s work.

A full-color catalogue, featuring an essay by John Yau and an interview with David Miller by Charles Stainback, is also available. Learn more about David Miller by visiting his website.
