The artist Victor Ekpuk combines elements of a traditional textile-based script known as nsibidi, which comes from his native Nigeria, with his own ideas to create exhilarating contemporary works of art. Ekpuk brought his vision to the Tang Teaching Museum and made a site-specific chalk drawing on two facing gallery walls called Drawing Memory. For a limited time, the Tang Store is offering a special Ekpuk-designed T-shirt that brings his whimsical take on nsibidi full circle — from textile, to museum, and back to textile.
Ekpuk’s wall drawing is on view in the exhibition Sixfold Symmetry: Pattern in Art and Science through March 12, 2017.
The shirt is 100% cotton and comes in white.
