Pattern is deeply embedded in everything we do. Pattern defines and regulates how we speak, think, and interact with our natural and manufactured environments. The exhibition Sixfold Symmetry: Pattern in Art and Science was created in collaboration with nine Skidmore College faculty members who worked together to explore how and why humans discern, design, and desire pattern across all areas of our lives. This publication is produced in conjunction with the exhibition and features new scholarship by Skidmore College faculty and contributions by students.
Sixfold Symmetry: Pattern in Art and Science was honored with the Innovations in Print award in 2019 in the American Alliance of Museums annual Publication Design Competition, and as a winner in American Institute of Graphic Arts’ annual 50 Books | 50 Covers design competition in 2018.
